Your LCD Monitor screen is very sensitive to dust, fingerprints, or even particles propelled from coughing or sneezing without covering your mouth and nose. Since it is one of the most expensive components of your desktop or notebook computer, it is important that you know how to clean it the right way to prevent damage.
Remember that your LCD Monitor screen should never have even the slightest pressure applied to it with your hand, and should never be touched directly with your fingers. This can cause the pixels to burn out.
To prepare for cleaning your screen, you will need a piece of very soft cloth like an old many-times-laundered handkerchief. Never use tissues, toilet paper, or paper towels, as these will scratch your screen much like sandpaper does to wood surfaces. You will also need to mix a solution of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol (1:1). Don’t use tap water or mineral water; they contain dissolved salts that could leave white marks on the screen. Also, don’t use any solutions that contain acetone, ethyl alcohol, toluene, ethyl acid, ammonia, or methyl chloride.
Turn the monitor off. Spray some of the prepared liquid solution evenly on the cloth – NEVER SPRAY DIRECTLY ON THE SCREEN. Gently move the cloth over the screen in one direction only, up and down from top to bottom. Allow the screen to dry completely before closing or using the computer.
As an alternative, there are many LCD Monitor cleaner solutions and wipes available in the marketplace, but they are expensive. The above method works very well and is inexpensive.
