In my previous blog, I mentioned purchasing new equipment including PCs which most often come pre-installed with Windows Vista.
I also mentioned checking the compatibility of Vista with the applications you are running to avoid running into problems after upgrading.
Here is a link to an "unofficial" wiki software compatibility list Software_List
Here is similar link to a hardware compatibility list Hardware_List
Please remember that these list are unofficial. If you really need to know if a piece of hardware or software is compatible with Vista you can always call or email the manufacture and ask.
I also thought I would mentioned that CounterPoint SQL will run on Windows Vista,as a back office workstation not POS. Which means that Radiant does not support the use of a Windows Vista PC in a "Cash Register" type environment. Lack of Point Of Sale hardware drivers make this an issue.
While looking at some of the new features of Windows Vista, I found the new "Vista Easy Transfer" utility. This is the replacement for Windows XP's "File and Transfer Wizard". This utility will allow you to transfer all the important files and settings from XP to Vista. Including User accounts, Files and Folders (including Pictures, Music ,etc...), Program settings, Internet settings, Favorites, Email settings, Contacts, and messages.
This utility is designed to work with Windows XP and Vista. Please remember that it does not transfer any programs from one PC to another. Be sure to install your programs from scratch on Vista first. Also, the files that it does not transfer will need to be exported and imported. The tools for imports and exports are usually found under the File menu of you application. If necessary, you can manually transfer files using a USB Drive or CD.
If you still need some help transferring data from your old PC to your new one, or need to find out if compatibility will be an issue, please send me an email or call me 1-800-672-4806
